A Lifetime of Loving Someone

The Story Behind Crisis Care Solutions

"What would happen to my child if I weren't here?"

That's the question that led Nicole Goss to create Crisis Care Solutions.

When I had the opportunity to interview Nicole and learn about her experience, I expected to hear the story behind a service.

Instead, from the very first question, Nicole spoke from her heart.

When asked what led her to create Crisis Care Solutions and what experiences inspired her work, Nicole didn't hesitate.

"It didn't really start as a business. It started because I'm a mom..."

Nicole is the mother of a young adult with special needs. Like so many parents and caregivers, she didn't become an expert because someone handed her a manual. She became an expert through years of living it. Doctor's appointments. School meetings. Good days and difficult ones. Over time, she learned the things only a parent can know about the child they love and care for.

Those lessons weren't written in a medical chart or tucked inside legal documents. Not even a file cabinet could hold them. They came from a lifetime of loving someone.

Then one day, Nicole looked around her home and realized something she had never fully seen before.

Her child's assessments, medical records, conservatorship papers, school records, and benefit information were everywhere. Some were in files. Some were tucked away. Others lived in emails. She knew where everything was.

But what if something happened to her?

Who would know where to find everything?

More importantly, who would know everything that wasn't written down?

Nicole realized that the most important information wasn't on any of those pages.

It lived in her.

Her experience. Her advocacy. Everything she had learned about what brought comfort, what built trust, and what helped her child feel safe. Those were the things she feared could be lost.

That realization became the beginning of Crisis Care Solutions.

What began as one mother's search for peace of mind gradually grew into something much larger. Nicole realized she wasn't the only parent carrying a lifetime of knowledge that existed nowhere else. Families everywhere were asking the same difficult questions, often quietly and privately, wondering who would step in if life suddenly changed.

As she listened to other caregivers, she heard the same concerns repeated again and again. They knew where the paperwork was. They knew who to call. They knew the routines, the relationships, and the little things that made life work. But almost all of that knowledge lived inside the caregiver. It had never been gathered, organized, or passed on to the next person who might someday need it.

That's when Nicole stopped thinking about documents and started thinking about continuity.

Today, through Crisis Care Solutions, Nicole helps families preserve the knowledge that so often lives only in the heart and mind of a caregiver. Through her Care Continuity System, she helps organize medical records, legal documents, daily routines, support networks, and the personal details that can help future caregivers step in with greater confidence.

Her work also includes the Legacy Letter, a deeply personal message that allows caregivers to leave something no medical record or legal document ever can: their own voice. It offers a way to share their wisdom, hopes, and words of encouragement with both the next caregiver and the person they have spent a lifetime loving and caring for.

Nicole is also available to present to parent groups, nonprofit organizations, Regional Centers, community organizations, and professionals who support individuals with disabilities. Drawing from both her personal experience as a caregiver and the work that led to the creation of Crisis Care Solutions, her presentations offer practical insights, thoughtful guidance, and a compassionate perspective on Care Continuity Planning.

Funding for eligible families may be available through California's Self-Determination Program.
