In Memory of Barbara McCune

Barbara was a dear and deeply loved friend. She was an introvert, someone who was particular about the details of life, right down to the smallest things. Everything had its place. Everything seemed to matter.

And somehow, when Barbara made a place for you in her life, you knew it.

She had a way of making the people she cared about understand that they were special to her. She didn’t need a crowd around her to make an impact. Her friendship was personal, intentional, and something I treasured.

The last time I saw Barbara, she made me lunch. At the time, it was simply time spent with a dear friend. Today, that ordinary little moment has become an extraordinary memory. I’m so grateful that I have it.

There are people we love whose absence leaves us searching for words big enough to explain what they meant to us. I don’t think I have words big enough for Barbara.

I just know that I loved her, I knew that she loved me, and I am grateful that for part of this life, Barbara McCune made a place for me in hers.
