Two Mountain Communities. One Saturday.

This Saturday, August 29, 2026, there will be two good reasons to spend some community time along Highway 38 and Valley of the Falls Drive.

Angelus Oaks will welcome visitors to the AO Mountain Market at The Oaks Restaurant from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will bring together local vendors, food, music, handmade goods, and the easygoing atmosphere of a community gathering.

Just below, Forest Falls will hold its Community Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gail D. Cox Community Center at Big Falls Lodge. Local emergency responders and community organizations will offer practical information about wildfire preparedness, home safety, CERT participation, and emergency readiness.

The Mill Creek Canyon Fire Safe Council, publicly known as FireSafe38.org, will be tending an information table at the Forest Falls event. Stop by, ask questions, and learn more about the resources being developed for Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls.

These are two different events with two different purposes, but both depend upon the same thing: people showing up.

Community markets help local makers, small businesses, musicians, and neighbors remain connected. Safety fairs give residents an opportunity to meet the people and organizations working to help our communities prepare for emergencies. Both strengthen the relationships that make mountain life possible.

This isn't about choosing which community to support. Head up to Angelus Oaks, then continue back down to the Safety Fair in Forest Falls, or attend whichever gathering best fits your day. What matters is participating.

Our mountain communities have unique identities, traditions, and events, but we are connected by community and the SR 38 highway, the mountain landscapes, and many of the same challenges.

This Saturday, come up the mountain, spend locally, learn something useful, and support the people who make these communities what they are.
