Mill Creek Canyon Fire Safe Council: Building for What Comes Next

The Mill Creek Canyon Fire Safe Council has begun a new chapter.

Serving Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls, the Council has been formally established as a California nonprofit organization with a simple purpose: helping our communities become better informed, better connected, and better prepared for wildfire.

This work isn’t new to the canyon. Fire readiness has long been part of living here, and people before us recognized the importance of having a local Fire Safe Council. What we are doing now is rebuilding that foundation with an organizational structure designed to continue and grow with our communities.

Our public-facing program, FireSafe38.org, will focus on practical steps residents can take: preparing themselves and their households, hardening their homes, creating fire-smart yards, planning for evacuation, and connecting with trusted information and resources.

We also recognize that this work doesn’t happen in isolation.

Angelus Oaks has its own established and successful Fire Safe Council. While our Council specifically represents Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls, we consider Angelus Oaks an important neighbor and partner in the larger preparedness picture along Highway 38.

The Mill Creek Canyon Fire Safe Council is also a member of the Inland Empire Fire Safe Alliance, connecting our local work with Fire Safe Councils, agencies, resources, and experience throughout the region.

Our Board of Directors recently held its first official meeting and completed the initial steps needed to organize the Council. Board Advisor Frank Sexton has provided valuable guidance as we establish the Council’s role and build a foundation intended to last.

There is plenty of work ahead, and we don’t expect to build everything at once.

We will listen. We will learn. We will build relationships. We will provide useful information and practical resources. When another organization or agency is better equipped to meet a resident’s need, part of our responsibility will be helping make that connection.

Wildfire is part of the reality of living in Mill Creek Canyon. Readiness is something we can strengthen together.

Residents are invited to visit FireSafe38.org as we begin adding local information, preparedness guidance, and opportunities to participate.
